How does laser work?
Brown spots, commonly referred to as pigmented lesions, can include age spots, liver spots, freckles, and lentigenies, all of which are very successfully treated by laser.
The laser light is targeted onto the skin causing selective absorption by the pigmented areas, resulting in the targeted cells (pigmentation) to scatter and degenerate.
These dead surface pigmented skin cells temporarily darken and crust over within 24hrs, after which they gradually begin to fade or completely disappear – a process which takes approximately 7-14 days.
How does it feel?
The treatment is not painful – there is a slight heat pricking sensation which lasts a split second.
Immediately afterwards there maybe a mild sunburn type sensation which may last a few hours but is soothed and cooled with the application of Aloe Vera gel.
How many treatments are needed?
In some cases only one treatment may be necessary, but in heavily pigmented areas usually two treatments are required to give maximum effect and best results.
Treatment intervals are generally four weeks apart.
It is impossible to fully predict the outcome of your treatment and some blemishes do not disappear completely but a significant reduction in pigment is always noted and usually at least 90% improved or completely removed.
Pre and post treatment instructions are provided at the consultation appointment.
